Spinelle Rouge / Rose / Violette

Red/Pink/Purple Spinel

Short presentation :

  • Spinel is very resistant, more resistant than Tourmaline. This is alluvial, that is to say it was rolled by the river, naturally. It was then rolled slightly. Which explains its “prune” shape. Spinel belongs to the cubic system which gives it a structuring and highly concentrated energy.
  • “Spinel” refers to both the name of a mineral and a group of a dozen cubic minerals. It is an oxide of aluminum and magnesium; traces of iron give it its black color, chrome gives it red, and cobalt gives it blue.
Spinels
  • It often appears in the form of hard glassy octahedra. The red variety is often called ruby (although it has nothing to do with it mineralogically speaking) because of the blood red color which is similar. It is called noble spinel. Moreover, many historical rubies turn out to be spinels, like two being part of the British Crown.
Red/Pink/Purple Spinel
  • It is a gem belonging to a whole group of minerals close to each other and has been called an impostor many times because it is present in the same deposits as ruby and sapphire and has often been confused with these gems. “So-called” rubies are in fact spinels, like the Black Prince of the English crown or those of the Wittelsbach crown. It has been known since antiquity and the origin of its name remains unclear, although it may be an evocation of “little thorns” due to its six-pointed crystals.
Red Spinel
  • Besides his name, comes from the Latin spinella, “little thorn”, in reference to the tips of octahedral crystals. The first spinels discovered date back to 100 BC. JC, in a Buddhist tomb near Kabul (Afghanistan). Red and blue spinels were already known to the Romans.
  • The rubicella attaches to orange, yellow or brown color. Broom spinel is red in color. Pleonaste, or ceylanite, very dark and opaque green, even blackish. Hercynite is a green-black iron spinel with a density of 3.95. Gahnite or gahno-spinel is red-purple, blue to dark blue, green, even black and it contains zinc (ZnAl2O4), its density can reach 4.62. Picotite is a dark green chromiferous spinel with a density of 4.2. The two largest known spinels are in the British Museum, octahedral crystals weighing 520 carats each. Russia has one of 400 carats. There are "trapiche" spinels from the Kachin state in northern Burma.

Virtues & Benefits:

Red/Pink/Purple Spinel

  • Spinel is a stone of great power. However, it is difficult to differentiate from a sapphire in its yellow or blue varieties, from a ruby or a garnet in its red variety, from an amethyst in its purple variety, from a schörl (Tourmaline) or from 'an onyx in its black variety. Regardless, its properties are roughly identical to those of the stones it resembles, with roughly comparable power. However, purple spinel is more powerful than amethyst, purplish blue spinel is very close to tanzanite but a little less powerful, black spinel has properties comparable to schörl (black tourmaline) but is more suitable for protection against the negative energies that it sends back to the depths of the darkness from which they came rather than to an anchor on the ground for an easier return to consciousness. Red spinel, sometimes called Ceylanite, is most sought after for its beauty and brilliance. The same recommendations apply to all red stones: they are not suitable for hypertensive, angry, authoritarian or violent people. Its properties are close to those of ruby, certain rubellites and certain garnets, particularly in the rhodolite variety.
Red/Pink/Purple Spinel
