Etymology: 

• Obsidian: Named after the Roman Obsius, who is believed to have discovered this stone in Ethiopia.

Group, Family: 

• Natural Glass Family.

Color : 

• Black, Grey, Brown Ribbons, Rarely Green to Dark Green, Blue to Dark Blue, Red, Sometimes Iridescence (Celestial Eye), Black speckled with white flakes of Christobalite (Snow Obsidian), Sometimes gold or silver.

Chandelier: 

• Glassy.

Origin : 

• United States, Mexico, Japan, Hawaii.

Crystal system: 

• Amorphous.

Chemical composition: 

• SiO2 (66 to 72% + Oxides of Ca, Na, K, etc. Basaltic glasses are about 50% SiO2).

• Translucent to Opaque.

• 2.33 to 2.42 | 2.70 to 3.0 for basalt glasses

Hardness: 

• 5 to 6.

Cleavage:

• Black and speckled with small snowflakes.
• Speckled obsidian is also sometimes called snowflake obsidian because of its scattered natural white spots.- Root, sacral and solar plexus chakra.

Virtues on the physical level:

• Speckled obsidian is beneficial to the sinus.
• It acts on the stomach and intestines , promotes digestion.
• It promotes the detoxification ,
• It strengthens bones.
• It is beneficial to the blood circulation.

• It allows us to connect with our deep me.
• It relieves pain and reduces stress .
• It helps to overcome anger .

Virtues on the spiritual level:

• Snowflake Obsidian is less strong than black obsidian , it is therefore recommended for all those who cannot stand the great power of black obsidian,
• It can be worn on oneself permanently ; in this case it is often advisable to wear it with Rose Quartz because the light produced by it facilitates and resolves conflicts that obsidian brings to the surface .
• Like tourmaline, obsidian also purifies vibrations , so it is a good support for meditation.

• The recharging of this stone, which falls into the classification of “solar” stones, is done in the sun, in the earth or on a quartz or rock crystal geode.
