Etymology: 

• Obsidian: Named after the Roman Obsius, who is believed to have discovered this stone in Ethiopia.

Group, Family: 

• Natural Glass Family.

Color : 

• Black, Grey, Ribbons brunettes, rarely green to dark green, blue to dark blue, red, Sometimes iridescence (Celestial Eye), Black speckled with white flakes of Christobalite (Snow Obsidian), Sometimes golden or silver.

Chandelier: 

• Glassy.

Origin : 

• United States, Mexico, Japan, Hawaii.

• Amorphous.

Chemical composition: 

• SiO2 (66 to 72% + Oxides of Ca, Na, K, etc. Basaltic glasses are about 50% SiO2).

• It is a powerful shield against negative energies and the most harmful influences.

Virtues on the physical level:

• By removing energy blockages, it relieves tension. This stone acts as a detoxifier, dissipating blockages and tension in the subtle bodies and the physical body, including hardened arteries. It alleviates pain from arthritis, joint problems, cramps, and injuries.
• Soothes pain, stops bleeding. Useful for reducing the size of a prostate.
• Meditation and Black Obsidian This mineral is deeply rooted in the concrete.
• It builds a protective wall around the meditator, facilitating concentration in their meditative tasks. Meditation with obsidian, however, requires precautions and remains reserved for the initiated.

Virtues on the psychological, emotional and mental level:

• Grounds the mind and body, stimulating growth on all levels. Blocks psychic attack and wards off negative spiritual influences. Expands the field of consciousness and allows the soul to heal, grow, and thrive. Leads to intellectual clarity. Strengthens self-control. Leads to facing one's "true self." Facilitates the return to past lives to heal old emotions or trauma.
• Helps to let go of old loves. Promotes compassion and strength. Calms stress by highlighting the causes (puts the individual face to face with these causes): solves the problem permanently and not as a palliative. Stone of absolute Yin and Yang balance.

Virtues on the spiritual level:

• Useful in divination, it is as effective as a crystal ball and develops the gift of prophecy. It opens access to knowledge and truth. Applied near the root chakra.

Chakras:

• Muladhara root chakra (1st chakra, base chakra, earth chakra) Muladhara is the anchor point with the earth and material reality. It is the seat of vital energy and the adrenal glands. The colors of the 1st chakra are red, brown and black, black obsidian is a stone designed to harmonize and balance it.

Cleaning, recharging, reprogramming:

• Clean with clear spring water or filtered water (never add salt to the water. Salt alters the structure of the mineral and the abyss). Soak the mineral overnight in an unmarked glass container, then take it out in the morning to rinse it with fresh spring or filtered water.
• Direct charging on a crystal or amethyst druse, in a crystal or amethyst geode. You can also place a dozen laser crystals or rocks in a circle (like a time dial), points towards the center, and place your minerals in the center to charge them. Another method is to place your minerals in a singing bowl: Tibetan or crystal bowl, (on a cotton cloth to avoid bowl/mineral vibrations), then ring the bowl to fill your minerals with this sound energy. Last method is to place your minerals on a disc (wood or mineral) engraved with the flower of life or the seal of Solomon or any other form of sacred geometry.
• Reprogramming: Reprogramming is not about telling your mineral what to do or not to do, but about putting the mineral in resonate with you to ask it to do what it needs to do, for you. Reprogramming must be done after each cleansing and must remain simple. Example of reprogramming: "I ask this mineral to bring me all the virtues and benefits on the different levels, for my greater good as well as for the greater good of the people around me."
