What is K-2?

  • K-2, also known as "K-2 Jasper" and "raindrop azurite," is an extremely interesting mineral from the Skardu region of northern Pakistan. It is like a magnet for anyone who sees it for the first time. It is actually a bright white granite (not jasper) that contains sharply contrasting orbs of bright blue azurite. The azurite orbs range from a few millimeters to about two centimeters in diameter. On a broken surface or on the surface of a slab, the blue orbs look like drops of bright blue ink that have splashed onto the rock. Upon closer examination, however, you will see that they are actually spherical in shape.
  • Although “K-2 Jasper” is the most commonly used name for marketing this mineral, it is definitely not jasper. If you examine the rock with a magnifying glass, you will see cleavage faces of feldspar minerals and black flakes of biotite.
  • The white granite is very fine-grained and composed of quartz, sodium plagioclase, muscovite, and biotite. Some specimens show strong alignment of biotite grains and could be called "granitic gneiss."
  • Examination of azurite spheres with a good hand lens or microscope reveals that azurite is present along mineral grain boundaries, within tiny fractures, and as a "dye" penetrating feldspar grains. Azurite is a secondary material that clearly formed after all other minerals in the granite had solidified from the parent melt.
  • People Don't Believe It's Azurite Many people see this mineral at mineral fairs or lapidary shows and immediately assume that the round blue dots were produced with a dye. When they question the identity of the blue mineral and learn that it is "azurite," they usually have a hard time believing it because white granite and azurite rarely occur together. For most people, this is the first time they have seen the two minerals in such close association.

Where is K-2 found?

  • K2 granite is named after a mountain in the Karakoram range near the Pakistan-China border. K2, also known as Mount Godwin Austen, is the second highest mountain in the world. The azurite granite is found in colluvium near the base of the mountain. It is in a very remote area visited by very few people.
  • These rugged snow-capped peaks make mining difficult, which is why this special stone is extremely rare and hard to find.
  • Great things never come easy, but it's always worth it, especially in the case of K2. A rare combination of azurite and granite.
  • The world's second highest mountain: A view of K2, also known as Godwin Austen, in the morning sun. With a summit elevation of 8,611 meters, K2 is the second highest mountain in the world after Mount Everest (8,848 meters), and ahead of Kangchenjunga (8,586 meters).
  • However, the K-2 Stone is a rare and unique stone (hence its high price, unlike others much cheaper which are only vulgar counterfeits), whatever the mineral composition, allowing to reach the highest peaks of consciousness and basic energy in the reality of the third dimension.

Lapidary properties

  • K2 granite cuts and polishes beautifully. Due to its high feldspar content, it can be easily cut with a lapidary saw and shapes quickly on a diamond wheel. Although azurite has a Mohs hardness of 3.5 to 4, the blue spots have the same cutting and polishing properties as the surrounding white granite. This is because azurite exists as a spot rather than as discrete mineral grains.
  • Some specimens also have small areas colored green with malachite. In the photo above of K2, you can see small patches of green malachite.
  • Azurite Granite with Malachite: The photo above shows a close-up of a piece of K2 granite. Dozens of patches of green malachite can be seen in this specimen.

Cleaning, recharging, reprogramming:

  • Clean with clear spring water or filtered water (never add salt to the water. Salt alters the structure of the mineral and the abyss). Soak the mineral overnight in an unmarked glass container, then take it out in the morning to rinse it with fresh spring or filtered water.
  • Direct charging on a crystal or amethyst druse, in a crystal or amethyst geode. You can also place a dozen laser crystals or rocks in a circle (like a time dial), points towards the center, and place your minerals in the center to charge them. Another method is to place your minerals in a singing bowl: Tibetan or crystal bowl, (on a cotton cloth to avoid bowl/mineral vibrations), then ring the bowl to fill your minerals with this sound energy. Last method is to place your minerals on a disc (wood or mineral) engraved with the flower of life or the seal of Solomon or any other form of sacred geometry.
  • Reprogramming: Reprogramming is not about telling your mineral what to do or not to do, but about putting the mineral in resonate with you to ask it to do what it needs to do, for you. Reprogramming must be done after each cleansing and must remain simple. Example of reprogramming: "I ask this mineral to bring me all the virtues and benefits on the different levels, for my greater good as well as for the greater good of the people around me."
