      Mineralogical characteristics of aquamarine

Aquamarine composed of silica, aluminum, copper, beryllium and iron is classified as cyclo-silicates. Its hardness is 7.5/8 Mohs on a scale of 10. It has a beautiful shine and can be transparent to translucent. Aquamarine is part of the beryl family, also made up of the precious emerald and three other much more common minerals, colorless goshenite, pink-toned morganite and heliodor yellow. The more or less oxidized iron gives its color to aquamarine, blue or green and different light or dark shades. Very exceptionally, it can have tiny mineral inclusions causing a shimmering or asterisk effect. The dark blue “deep lagoon” shade is currently the most popular. To obtain it, artificial methods with unstable results are frequently used: heating stones considered too light or greenish to 450° or irradiation of neutrons and gamma rays.
      Aquamarine
The most important and renowned minerals are found in Brazil and Pakistan. Other places of extraction are located in Australia, Asia (Burma, China, India, Sri Lanka), Africa (Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe), the United States and in Russia. In France, there are deposits in Chanteloube (Limousin), Echassières (Auvergne) and La Villeder (Brittany). Aquamarine is a minor constituent of granitic and pegmatic rocks, it is also found in alluvial deposits. Aquamarine is sometimes found accompanied by other minerals: lepidolite, spessardite or its cousins, morganite and heliodor. In Pakistan, it is sometimes found on muscovite.

We can confuse it with: kyanite, euclase, apatite or topaz and blue tourmaline. The name aquamarine is sometimes associated with erroneous or misleading names such as: "oriental aquamarine", "from Brazil", "from Siam", and even "synthetic aquamarine" which is generally a synthetic spinel.

The extraction of very large crystals is possible but these are often opaque specimens with an unappealing grayish tint and are not suitable for jewelry. Beauty is not the only interest of aquamarine. A metal used in its composition, beryllium, has properties sought after in industry. This low density element, rare and resistant, is used in aeronautics and nuclear energy. The name Santa-Maria (named after a Brazilian mine) is reserved for the most beautiful aquamarines. The even more sought-after Santa-Maria Maxixe is a deep blue aquamarine that fades in the light.
      Aquamarine
The largest quality stone, weighing 110 kg, was discovered in 1910 in Marambaia in Minas Gerai in Brazil. Many gems are cut there with a total weight of 100,000 carats. In the same region, at the Pedra-Azul deposit, aquamarines with curious twisted deep blue reliefs have been extracted since 1957.

        Cleaning, recharging, reprogramming:

        • Cleaning with clear spring water or filtered water (never salt in the water. Salt alters the structure of the mineral and the abyss). Soak the mineral overnight in an unmarked glass container, and then take it out in the morning to rinse it with new spring or filtered water.
        • Direct recharge on a crystal or amethyst druse, in a crystal or amethyst geode. You can also place a dozen laser or rock crystals in a circle (like a time dial), points toward the center, and place your minerals in the center to recharge them. Another method, place your minerals in a singing bowl: Tibetan or crystal bowl, (on a cotton cloth to avoid bowl/mineral vibrations), then ring the bowl to fill your minerals with this sound energy. Last method, place your minerals on a disc (wood or mineral) engraved with the flower of life or the seal of Solomon or any other forms of sacred geometry.
        • Reprogramming: Reprogramming consists not of telling your mineral what it should or should not do, but of putting the mineral in resonate with you to ask him to do what he needs to do, for you. Reprogramming must be done after each cleaning and must remain simple. Example of reprogramming: "I ask this mineral to bring me all the virtues and benefits on different levels, for my greatest good as well as for the greatest good of the people around me."
