Discovered in 1845, it honors the name of the Austrian mineralogist Franz Xavier von Wulfen (1728-1805).
Mining locations
In France it is found at the Cap Garonne mine in the Var, in the Farges mine in Ussel in Corrèze, in Germany at the Katharina mine in the Palatinate, in Mexico (Chihuahua), in Arizona where very beautiful specimens come from. (Red Cloud Mine), in Morocco, Namibia, Zambia, Zaire, Mongolia, China.
It is a collector's stone.
